COVENANT OF WATER

MUG: Trout Mug

BOOK: Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese

DRINK: Lemon Water

I had heard many good things about this book so when it materialized in our Lending Library I was excited to snag it and dig in. And DIG in I did. This is a BIG book and at times takes some perseverance to continue reading, at least it did for me. It actually had nothing to do with the writing style as that is actually what kept me motivated, it’s a beautifully written book. The storyline is written through three generations of family in southwest India and spans 1900-1970. The interweaving of the characters is beautiful and the timeframe of what is happening in India is an engaging to learn about the impacts of British rule and the taking back of the country. These are minor undertones to the main story but interesting to shed light onto India in the early 1900s. There is a common theme with water throughout the family lineage so I’d pair this book with a classic trout mug full of lemon water, to keep with that water theme.
