You may notice that there are some authors that I gravitate to and Neil Gaiman is one of them. He is an incredibly talented author and has a talent to make the gruesome come across as normal and sometimes even cute. Something the goth in me loves. Neverwhere is the story of down on his luck Richard Mayhew stumbling upon the London Below by helping a bleeding young woman named door. The London Below is a world made up of the people who fall through the cracks of London above. The people we pretend to not see, think unsheltered humans, and so much more. Door and Richard end up on quite the crusade throughout the brightest and darkest of dark places in London Below. It’s a lovely tale of friendship and what it means to be truly seen. I’d consider pairing this book with a Citra Bomb from Fisher Brewery in a Fisher Stein to keep the lightness through the more gruesome parts of this book.
