My first Montell book and I am hooked. She narrates her own books which made the audiobook that much better. In Cultish Montell explores what it means to be a part of a cult. With a background in linguistics and a father who grew up in a cult, the author dives into the language of cults. She starts with what we traditionally consider a cult, such as Jamestown, and how we adapt language from cults without thinking about the deeper meanings. i.e. “Drink the kool-aide.” All the way to soul cycle and exercise is quickly replacing religion in our modern day world. This book is fascinating and witty. You will not be disappointed and will definitely learn as least one interesting thing, I promise.
