A SHORT WALK THROUGH A WIDE WORLD 🎧
MUG: Desert Stein
BOOK: A Short Walk Through a Wild World by Douglas Westerbroke
DRINK: Electrolyte Mix
The 3.5 star rating on Good Reads about hits the mark on this book. It’s an intriguing plot and does call back memories of books I loved like the Incredible Life of Addie LaRue but just not quite as good. In a Shot Walk… a young girl, Aubrey Truvel, stumbles upon a puzzle ball that perhaps sets in an illness that forces her to be constantly on the move. If she stops for longer than 2-3 days she begins to bleed out of her mouth and it steadily worsens if she stays longer but her symptoms immediately alleviate when she moves away from the place she was staying. Westerbroke weaves in incredible stories of the places Aubrey travels to as she walks around the world many times always searching for a new place to avoid her sickness. The storyline seems to ramble and doesn’t have a strong ending in my opinion. Also being a women it’s incredibly hard to think of a solo female walking the globe in the late 1800s without more issues than presented in the book. Anyways if you decide to pick up this book perhaps pair it with an electorlyte mix served up in a desert stein as I’m sure Aubrey could have used some in her long days of walking.
